Frank Zappa Meets the Mothers of Prevention

Frank Zappa Meets the Mothers of Prevention er et musikkalbum av Frank Zappa fra 1985. Albumet ble først gitt ut i to forskjellige versjoner i USA og Europa.

Albumets tittel er en referanse til the lobbygruppen, PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center), som kjempet for at platekompanier skulle sette advarsler på albumene som de syntes var litt vel offensive, og på Zappas tidligere band, The Mothers of Invention.

Utgivelse

Etter distribusjonproblemer med Zappas album Thing-Fish, som tidligere Barking Pumpkin-distributør MCA Records nektet å distribuere, lagde Zappa en avtale med EMI Records, gjorde at Them or Us og Thing-Fish kunne bli distributert av Capitol Records i USA.

Zappa skrev en "advarsel" i innercoveret på disse albumene, og også på Frank Zappa Meets the Mothers of Prevention, som var skrevet slik:

WARNING/GUARANTEE: This album contains material which a truly free society would neither fear nor suppress. In some socially retarded areas, religious fanatics and ultra-conservative political organizations violate your First Amendment Rights by attempting to censor rock & roll albums. We feel that this is un-Constitutional and un-American. As an alternative to these government-supported programs (designed to keep you docile and ignorant). Barking Pumpkin is pleased to provide stimulating digital audio entertainment for those of you who have outgrown the ordinary. The language and concepts contained herein are GUARANTEED NOT TO CAUSE ETERNAL TORMENT IN THE PLACE WHERE THE GUY WITH THE HORNS AND POINTED STICK CONDUCTS HIS BUSINESS. This guarantee is as real as the threats of the video fundamentalists who use attacks on rock music in their attempt to transform America into a nation of check-mailing nincompoops (in the name of Jesus Christ). If there is a hell, its fires wait for them, not us.

Opplysningene på albumet inneholdt også en uttalelse fra Senator Ernest Hollings, som fastslo ved PMRC høringene: "…if I could find some way constitutionally to do away with it [foul language in music], I would", og også Zappa's ofte repeterte tekst der han oppfordrer sine fans å registrere seg for å få stemme.

Den originale USA-versjonen av albumet inneholder sporet "Porn Wars" – en lydsamling fra PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center) høringer. Dette sporet ble fjernet fra ikke-USA versjoner, og isteden utgitt med tre andre spor: «I Don't Even Care», skrevet av Zappa og Johnny "Guitar" Watson, og to instrumentale spor, «One Man, One Vote» (en synclavier komposisjon) og «H.R. 2911», som som forklarer noe av bakgrunnsmusikken fra «Porn Wars», uten PMRC utalelser. Den tidlige EMI CD-en inkluderte bare den Europeiske versjonen. Den originale Rykodisc CD'n la til to av de tre three europeiske sporene og byttet rekkefølgen på de andre sporene. Remaster–utgaven fra 1995 av Rykodisc la til et tredje spor på den Europeiske utgaven med sporene i omstokket orden.
