Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media adalah buku tahun 1988 yang ditulis oleh Edward S. Herman dan Noam Chomsky. Menurut mereka, media komunikasi massal Amerika Serikat "adalah institusi ideologis efektif nan berkuasa yang melaksanakan fungsi propaganda untuk menopang sistem dengan bergantung kepada pergolakan pasar, asumsi sendiri, dan penyensoran diri tanpa dipaksa secara terbuka." Semua ini diraih melalui model propaganda komunikasi.^[1] Judulnya berasal dari frasa "the manufacture of consent" dalam buku Public Opinion (1922) karya Walter Lippmann.^[2] Consent yang dimaksud adalah consent of the governed (persetujuan rakyat).

Buku ini direvisi 20 tahun kemudian karena ada banyak peristiwa besar sejak ini buku pertama terbit, khususnya pembubaran Uni Soviet. Perdebatan mengenai dampak Internet terhadap akses informasi masyarakat sudah berlangsung sejak 1988.
