John Bannister Goodenough (/ˈɡʊdɪnʌf/ guud-IN-uf;[3] 25 Juli 1922 – 25 Juni 2023) adalah fisikawan zat padat Amerika Serikat. Saat ini dia menjabat sebagai guru besar teknik mesin dan ilmu materi di Universitas Texas di Austin. Dia memulai karier tekniknya pada tahun 1952 di MIT Lincoln Laboratoty, di mana ia bekerja pada akses memori acak untuk komputer yang digunakan oleh sistem pertahanan udara SAGE.[4] Dia diakui sebagai ilmuwan yang mengidentifikasi dan mengembangkan baterai ion litium dan cara penggunaannya serta penggagas aturan Goodenough–Kanamori untuk menentukan tanda-tanda pertukaran super magnetik dalam materi.

Pada tahun 2014, dia dianugerahi Charles Stark Draper Prize atas penemuan baterai ion litium.[5] Pada tahun 2019, bersama-sama dengan M. Stanley Whittingham dan Akira Yoshino dia dianugerahi Penghargaan Nobel Kimia dan menjadi penerima nobel tertua sepanjang sejarah.
