Niiyama was born in Aomori, Aomori. She was previously married to baseball player Satoshi Kuroda (黒田哲史, Kuroda Satoshi). They have a daughter named Koharu Niiyama (新山小春, Nīyama Koharu) (born July 12, 2006). They divorced on December 29, 2014.
